Born and raised in Phoenix Arizona, Steven Tang never thought he would ever become a photographer.  Growing up, the type of toys you would typically see him play with were toy stethoscopes, and buck hammers going around checking everyone’s reflex.  He always dreamed of becoming a doctor or some type of engineer until he entered high school.

Taking a photography class in high school he fell in love with hearing that shutter sound go off, so he needed to get himself an SLR.  Several years later he purchased his first Nikon DSLR and never thought about engineering school again.

In 2007 Steven got his first freelance photography gig with urbanracer.com.   Shortly after, he was hired as a photographer at 944 Media.  In 2008, he left 944 to become a freelance photographer.

In 2009, Steven is currently the head photographer for DPLOYD Fashion, and couldn’t be happier.

INTERVIEW

Who/what did you want to be when you were a child? I wanted to be the next Bruce Lee!  Really, how were you going to achieve that? I watched a lot of his movies and other kung fu videos, and I would try to mimic his moves. Well, how is that going for you?  I kicked a whole in my dad’s wall, so I had to turn that dream down.  What are your current aspirations? To find a girlfriend! Trying to take photos of yourself is difficult so having someone there to hit the shutter release would be great.  Any upcoming projects?  Always! Working with Jonathan Rojas of DPLOYD fashion to create some sick photos.  How did you first get started?  When I first started out I was manly an automotive photographer but was quickly getting bored of it.  So when I met Jonathan, he gave me the opportunity to get into fashion photography which I quickly fell in love with.  Who would you like to thank?  I would like to thank you, family, and friends for supporting me in what I’m doing.  Jonathan Rojas of DPLOYD for giving me a chance, and Nikon for making AWESOME LENSES!
